Discover The Saruketha Pavilion

If you're looking for a delightful dining experience in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, The Saruketha Pavilion is the place to be. Nestled along Lake Round Road, it offers more than just a meal; it promises a memorable culinary journey in a scenic setting. The Pavilion (Saruketha), located on N Lake Rd, is a must-visit spot for locals and tourists alike.

Walking into The Saruketha Pavilion, you're immediately greeted by a welcoming atmosphere that blends modern comforts with a touch of traditional Sri Lankan charm. The restaurant’s design is spacious, with large windows offering a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Whether you’re here for a family lunch, a romantic dinner, or a casual get-together, the ambiance caters to all.

One of the restaurant’s standout features is its diverse menu. From local Sri Lankan delicacies to international favorites, there’s something for every palate. If you’re in the mood for something authentically Sri Lankan, the rice and curry options are a must-try. The rich flavors of Sri Lankan spices come alive in every bite, showcasing the island’s culinary heritage. For something lighter, you can opt for their fresh seafood, often sourced from nearby waters, ensuring the highest quality and taste.

But it’s not just the food that makes The Saruketha Pavilion special. The service is top-notch. The staff are friendly and attentive, making sure that every guest feels taken care of from start to finish. I’ve had the pleasure of dining here on several occasions, and every time, I’ve been impressed with how quickly the team attends to requests and ensures a smooth dining experience.

The restaurant’s location on N Lake Rd, close to some of Kurunegala’s main attractions, makes it a perfect stop for anyone exploring the area. After a meal, you can enjoy a peaceful walk around the lake, or if you’re visiting during a special event, the Pavilion is known to host occasional live music nights, adding an extra touch of enjoyment to your visit.

A highlight of dining at The Saruketha Pavilion is its focus on quality ingredients. The restaurant prides itself on using fresh, locally sourced produce. Whether it’s the farm-fresh vegetables or the locally raised meats, you can taste the care and attention that goes into each dish. Even the drinks menu offers an impressive selection of both local and international options, including a great variety of fresh fruit juices and cocktails that perfectly complement the meal.

Many guests rave about the dessert options as well. If you’re a fan of sweet treats, the traditional Sri Lankan sweets like “watalappan” or the rich chocolate cake are highly recommended. These desserts are not overly sweet, allowing the natural flavors to shine through in a way that’s satisfying but not overwhelming.

For those who are interested in hosting private events, The Saruketha Pavilion also offers catering services and private dining options. Whether it’s a birthday celebration, a corporate event, or a family gathering, the restaurant has the facilities and expertise to make your event special. The serene setting by the lake adds to the charm of any occasion held here, making it an excellent choice for both small and large gatherings.

From a gastronomic point of view, The Saruketha Pavilion does a remarkable job of combining traditional flavors with modern techniques. The balance between the rich, comforting flavors of Sri Lankan cuisine and more contemporary, lighter dishes makes this place stand out in the local dining scene. As a frequent diner here, I’ve never been disappointed with the consistency and quality of the food.

Whether you’re a local resident or a tourist in Kurunegala, The Saruketha Pavilion on N Lake Rd is worth a visit. With its inviting atmosphere, diverse menu, and dedication to providing an exceptional dining experience, it’s easy to see why it’s become such a beloved spot. The combination of great food, excellent service, and a beautiful location makes it a place you’ll want to return to time and time again.

  • Lovely lovely location with such a traditional look and feel. This was just a toilet stop for us but we ended up sitting to have some tea as we liked the setting so much. The downside was that it's fairly pricey, so a tea cost us probably more than it would cost in the UK, but it was still lovely tasting and generally tour drivers will stop off at places which are more expensive like this. Worth a visit as a stop off in your tour journey but it's not he cheapest place.

  • Located just outside the highway exit, it’s a good, decent place to enjoy a meal with warm hospitality. Meals are served from breakfast to dinner, making it an ideal spot to relax and enjoy some serenity after a tiring journey.

  • Good variety of foods for the buffet around 3k per person. Separate manu is available as well. Nice clean place and good service.

  • Good place to eat along the Kurunegala-Dambulla road and right after the Yaggapitiya highway exit. The place has a huge parking space, out door seating and a very natural vibe. Tried the Nasi Goreng and it was good. It was served with Satay chicken and Omlette. Price is a bit on the expensive side. Food arrived quickly but had to wait for more than 10 minutes for the bill to arrive.
